New Hope Assembly was founded by Pastor James Weaver and his wife, Susan. Pastor Weaver had been asked by the Iowa District of the Assemblies of God to start a church in Urbandale, and the former Bethesda Temple became the site of the new church. A core group of 17 individuals from Berean Assembly of God, our mother church, launched New Hope on Sunday, October 7, 1990.
The original 40′ x 80′ church building was expanded in 1995, which added 20,000 square feet. With the generous and faithful giving of its members, the 20-year $1 million mortgage was paid in full in just 5 years.
Our new sanctuary, completed in January 2013, seats approximately 900 and features an orchestra pit and state of the art sound and lighting systems. It also includes a very spacious foyer, two story education wing, and plenty of parking. This is phase one of a four phase plan.
Our Townsend buildings, referred to as our Student Campus, are now home for our Middle School, High School and College ministries. It is also the location of our church offices, fellowship halls, gymnasium and some adult education classrooms.
